KIANDA FOUNDATION MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS INTERN 

Goals/ Objectives 

This is an exciting role that will allow the qualified candidate to expand her knowledge of writing for the nonprofit sector and the field of digital communication. The successful candidate will support the coordination of specific marketing and communication activities within the Foundation, driving its online and offline recognition.

 

The Person

We are looking for an energetic and self-starter marketing and communications intern to join the Foundation team. If you’re ambitious, driven and want to build a career in Marketing and Communications with a distinct focus on social media and writing within the nonprofit sector, then we want to work with you. Your work will include updating policy documents, preparing promotional presentations, posting on and monitoring social platforms, and conducting market analysis.

In addition to being an excellent communicator, you should have excellent multitasking and organisational abilities. The successful candidate will also have in-depth knowledge of marketing techniques and social media platforms. Typical duties of the marketing and communications intern include, but are not limited to:- 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare marketing proposals and presentations based on the Foundation’s needs 

  2. Work under guidance to write, review, edit and update content for the Foundation’s websites, blogs, marketing materials, and similar platforms.

  3. Write and publish various types of interesting, quality pieces for the Foundation’s web pages, like articles, blogs, reports and social media posts ( may vary according to activity but typically 3 social media posts per week and 3 blog posts per month).

  4. Analyse engagement data and identify trends in supporter interactions. Identify audience needs and identify new topics of interest. (Monitoring social media and Foundation website metrics. Including using SEOs to increase traffic and conversion rates).

  5. Plan digital campaigns to build community online and offline (Who are our supporters, where are they? How can we convert them into donors?).

  6. Research and develop new ideas for Web/social media content.

  7. Able to take and edit photos, videos, experience using canva and Wix is a plus. Create suitable textual, image, animation, graphical and interactive content for different online platforms.

  8. Interview beneficiaries, professionals working within these programs and in the industry and incorporate their views in blog posts/ posts on other media platforms. Be able to engage online audiences and obtain feedback from targeted audiences

  9. Assist with volunteer recruitment/management, event day logistics, post-event communication/ evaluation, compiling materials and other event-related activities.

  10. Maintain a clean database of the Foundation’s individual donors and supporters, media contacts, consolidate contacts among Foundation staff. 

 

Required Skills

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills

  2. Ability to work well with others or independently

  3. Responsible and have initiative to problem solve where necessary

  4. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately both in oral and written language 

  5. Proficiency in use of word, excel, powerpoint, google drive/ suite. Experience with Canva and wix is a plus 

  6. Accurate and detail oriented

 

Education Background

Undergraduate student studying communications, journalism, marketing and related fields. Candidates with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic are encouraged to apply. 

 

Time Commitment

Hybrid. 10-20 hours weekly. Hours and work dates are flexible and may be set according to an intern’s class schedule.
