The CHEP Program together with the Sight For Kids team from Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital camped in 4 public schools in Limuru to screen pupils’ eyes. The screenings took place on 11th, 12th, 14th and 18th September in Limuru Mission Primary School, Umoja Primary School, King’othua Primary School and Riara Primary School.
During screening at Riara Primary, Clinton who is a 13 year old class 6 pupil, was discovered to have cataracts which were slowly developing in his eyes. He claimed to have itchy eyes and cloudy vision and did not know when the problem started after he was questioned. He and his 4 siblings live with his grandmother. His father works as a mechanic in Nairobi and his mother passed on when he was little. He told his grandmother about his problem but she didn’t take any action because she didn’t have enough money to take him to hospital. Clinton is among 20 other pupils from different schools who had conditions which needed special treatment. He will undergo surgery to remove the cataracts before they fully develop.
